Origin
No Cake!
It started out as a short-hand code, a distress signal, among friends in college. Whenever things were particularly dire, you'd send out the "no cake!" signal to mobilize the troops.
Example: "Sweetie, I'm in a bind. New York Telephone is about to shut off my service; I think the boyfriend is cheating; and there's NO CAKE! here." Those two little words deployed troops to Gristedes for Entenmann's and Ben & Jerrys, popped corks of the cheapest merlot to be found and in extreme cases, sent undergrads on rum runs.
No Cake!
It brought out friends - it brought comfort, solace and a shoulder to cry on. But more than that, it set you on the right path and cleared away some of the clutter.
No Cake!
Let the healing begin.
